Opportunities for Everyday Sounds in Care Practice
Workshop sessions with professional caregivers provided insight into how sound can add value to existing daily routines and activities in long-term dementia care. The caregivers did not serve as spokespersons for the residents, but as stakeholders with their own view and opinion on providing everyday care for people in later stages of dementia. During the workshops, caregivers mapped the ‘typical day’ of a resident onto a 24h cycle. Next, the caregivers were asked to interpret and link statements from literature on sound and dementia to their own practice and experience. Lastly, the caregivers were introduced to Vita: a pillow-like sound player to develop concrete use-cases within everyday care.
